Noor — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 September 2026 · Applies to the Noor Android app and the Noor website (noormuslim.com).
Noor is created by Khuram Imtiaz. Your data is never sold, and Noor contains no analytics SDKs. The free Android app shows small banner ads, which you can remove with a subscription or a tip. Most of the app works entirely on your phone without an account.
What stays on your phone
- Prayer times and the Qibla direction are calculated on your device from your location.
- In the Android app, recitation check and khutbah captions use on-device speech recognition. Audio is never recorded, uploaded or stored by Noor. On the website these features use your browser's built-in speech recognition, which may send the audio to your browser's provider (for example Google for Chrome) to turn it into text; Noor itself never receives or stores the audio.
- Steps for the tawaf and sa'i counters are counted on the device and not sent anywhere.
- Settings, tasbih counts, bookmarks and notes are stored locally unless you create an account and sync.
What is sent to our servers
- Account (optional): your email address, display name and, if you sign in with Google, your Google account identifier. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes.
- Synced data (only when signed in): bookmarks, notes, prayer log, khatam progress and settings, so they follow you across devices.
- Community features (only if you use them): posts, reactions, group khatam, family circle and Hajj group membership, and the name you choose to show.
- Nearby mosques and halal food: your approximate location is sent to look up places. Requests are served from a coarse-area cache and are not linked to your account or stored as a location history.
- Ask Noor and search by meaning: the question or phrase you type is sent through our server to Google's Gemini service to produce an answer or a search match. Do not enter personal or sensitive information.
- Community moderation: before an Ummah post is published, its text is checked automatically by Google's Gemini service to keep the feed respectful. Posts that are blocked or held for review are kept so a moderator can check the decision, together with a record of what was decided. Moderators can see which account wrote a post, including anonymous posts.
- Notifications: if you enable server push, a device notification token is stored to deliver reminders.
Ads in the Android app
The free Android app shows small banner ads from Google AdMob on some browsing screens. Ads never appear on prayer times, while reading the Qur'an or duas, on the Qibla, or in Kids Mode and Simple mode. To show and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects device identifiers (such as the Android Advertising ID), your IP address and approximate location derived from it, ad interactions and diagnostic information, and shares them with Google. Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, UK and some US states) Noor asks for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time under Settings → Privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your Advertising ID in Android settings. Google's use of this data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. The website does not show ads at this time.
Purchases
The ad-free subscription and tips are processed by Google Play. Noor never receives your card or payment details. The app receives a purchase confirmation from Google Play to unlock ad-free use, and if you are signed in, the date your ad-free time ends is saved to your account so it follows you to other devices.
Permissions the app asks for
Location (prayer times, Qibla, nearby mosques), notifications and exact alarms (Adhan on time), audio playback in the background (Qur'an and Adhan), microphone (on-device recitation check only), Do Not Disturb access (Salah Focus, only if you enable it), physical activity (step counting for Hajj counters), and the advertising ID (ads). Each is optional and can be revoked in Android settings.
Sharing
We never sell your personal data. In the free Android app, the Google Mobile Ads SDK shares the data described under "Ads" with Google to show ads. Other service providers process data only to run Noor: hosting (Vercel), database (Neon), AI processing (Google Gemini) and payments (Google Play). We may disclose data if required by law.
Security and retention
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Account data is kept until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your synced data, posts, reactions and group memberships.
Your choices and deleting your data
You can delete your account and all associated data inside the app (Profile → Delete account) or through the web page noormuslim.com/delete-account. You can also email us and we will delete it for you.
Children
Noor is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Kids Mode is a parent-supervised section that shows no ads, needs no account and keeps its progress on the device.
Changes and contact
We will post any change to this policy on this page and update the date above. Questions or requests: khuramwatches@gmail.com.
